Calling

My favorite calling I've ever had was doing acheivement days with the Merrie Miss age girls. I know, its not called that anymore. What is it? Faith in God?? I had that calling before I got married and talk about FUN. Not so much the planning, but actually doing the activities with the girls. I liked hanging out with them... so uninhibited. I guess I like that age, because I also really enjoyed teaching the 11 year old Primary Class. I enjoyed the challenge of figuring out how I was going to get them to sit through sharing time when lets face it, most of the activities are no longer age appropriate. Young Womens was a GREAT growing experience. I definitely learned the most about myself in that time period. Although, young womens can be intense. Its a significant time commitment, and I felt a lot of pressure in nurturing such fragile testimonies. And the latest calling, Enrichment, that stretched me in new ways too. Honestly, I found it just plain hard. I know some people really enjoy planning activities, but to me it's hard. When you have so many sisters of various ages, stages, abilities, and interests, I just couldn't think of enough ideas to keep everyone engaged. But thats why you work on a committee for that calling! Whew-wee that calling would have been impossible for me without a committee.

Anyway, so the acheivement days (err faith in God) has been my longstanding favorite calling. But I think the newest calling will give it a run for its money. I've certainly never been more excited about a calling. Teaching Sunbeams is something I've always dreamed of doing. Three is my most favorite age. Everytime I've served in Primary I've looked at the Sunbeams class and wished I could be with them. They looked so innocent, so energetic, eager... so fun with their bright eyes... brand new to primary. So 2010 is on the up and up! And the place to be Sunday mornings, will be Sunbeams!

But now I'm curious; what's been your favorite calling? And why...

Ward Missionary... I guess it's for similar reasons. I really like watching the change and excitement in investigators or recent converts. But I long to someday teach a teenage sunday school class.

That is awesome that you just got called to teach the class that you have always wanted, Sunbeams. Not me, 3 is one of the hardest ages for me (atleast with my children). Maybe I expect too much out of 3 yr. olds. ? . I love being in Primary, most of the time, but I realllllllly loved being the Enrichment Counsilor. I was hoping when I found out they were reorganizing our RS that I would be called to that. But instead I am getting the little class that I have watched ALL year act out in Sharing Time. The class that is the loudest & most irreverent in Primary. When am I going to learn to keep my mouth shut. When we were in TN, I did not like how unorganized & unprepared the Primary Presidency was and so I got called to it. Now, I have complained to Bryan about this class & how there were several sundays I just wanted to leave Sharing Time before I had a nervous break down & now they will be my little class. Bryan says it is because I am always trying to get the other classes to be reverent & so they figured I was the only one that could handle them. SO, I have alot of praying & preparing for my first Sunday with this group of 5 yr. olds. Yes, 8 of them. Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a tangent, so my answer is Enrichment!

Mine would be young women's. I loved that one. I don't know why. Then next runner up would be Activities Committee. I love to plan fun stuff. :)

Stake Institute Coordinator. I loved being responsible for it. I know, weird.

Can I just say we are really excited for Grace going into Sunbeams and that she gets such an awesome teacher? It's true. We're really excited!

Uh, I was the ward chorister for 5 years before I was married. (I got called while I was in high school) I actually liked it because I got to pick all the songs, and it was a "Sunday" gig. Pretty easy, I just had to be on time and look pretty:) But I do love Primary.

Well I'm glad you're glad.

I loved being Achievement day leader in this ward and in my Tucson ward.

Didn't love the enrichment calling, for the reasons you stated.

I do like my calling now.

I think a dreaded one would be something like cannery specialist or family history consultant.

I've really enjoyed my calling of primary chorister this past year. I was scared of being able to entertain the kids well enough initially, but it ended up becoming one of my favorites.
I've liked young womens and teaching Relief Society too (was probably easier in my college ward though?).

Your group of sunbeams is very cute! They were so well behaved last week! (I think they might have been a little nervous, but still, they are a really good bunch).

Have fun!!

(And have a good week relaxing!)

Geez...my favorite calling? I loved teaching my first Sunday School group of 14 and 15 year olds. When the year was over and we got a new group I didn't like the calling as much, and thankfully they released us. I think I liked it because Drew and I taught together and the first group of kids were awesome- reverent, participated, responsive, and answered questions. They helped make it a fun calling. I also LOVE being a viiting teaching supervisor. Just having to call a bunch of women once a month. I feel like i get to know sisters I would otherwise never interact with. So while I enjoy teaching Sunday School, when the class is cooperative and respectful I guess my numero uno is V.T. Supervisor. But the one time I taught R.S. I really liked it- I wonder if I got called to that calling if I would enjoy it more than calling and emailing women once a month. :)

So glad you are excited about that calling. I am so proud of you!! You know Primary is my first love!! (as far as callings) Every calling in Primary has been my favorite. I did grow to love my calling as RS teacher years ago. I did love my calling in the Stake RS in mesa, learned alot. But i will always love primary no matter what they ask me to do. Have fun!!

Oh Congrats! You get Nicholas this year! I'm so nervous to have him going to Primary. He's excited I bet but I can see you being a wonderful teacher to the new sunbeams!

I really enjoy the young women callings because you get to be helping at such an important stage. Although I think it's easier to be with the Beehives or Laurels. For some reason sometimes Mia Maids is a little different as they start to really have to choose. Where as beehives look forward to everything they hear and the Laurels are maturing and taking everything in as well. I enjoyed working as Primary President although it was such a huge responsibility and overwhelming especially since I got called right after I got married. I do enjoy my calling as RS teacher right despite feeling nervous each month at the knowledge I know the sisters in RS already have which surpasses mine.

How did your first lesson go? I walked into church yesterday and the new Primary President came up and said she needed a teacher TODAY- even though I hadn't been sustained yet. So, I had to read the lesson during sacrament mtg :) It turned out okay! It was fun to see you guys.

I have had many different callings over the years. Interestingly, some of my favorites were ones that initially I wasn't sure I would like. I came to really enjoy being the preparedness person, den mother and working in Stk. YW as the secretary. I think I liked these callings more than some because I am an organizer...I prefer to be involved but not in charge.

I'm so excited to have Daniel in your Sunbeams class! You have a cute little bunch of kids and Daniel had a good time his first week:)

Favorite calling? I have to admit, it is teaching RS. So fun! And only once a month is pretty nice. I love working with the youth and primary though.

I think I would have a hard time with a difficult teenage sunday school class. . .
