I'll be one of their crisis therapists that works on a mobile team responding to people in crisis (hince the title). Our job is to stabilize, assess, and make treatment recommendations. Its fairly similar to what I did for the fire department, but this holds more liability because EMPACT is a licensed behavioral health provider.
This isn't exactly my dream job, but crisis work is always good experience for social workers, counselors, psychiatrists, or anyone else in the behavioral health field. I like that every shift, every call will look different. I like having to think fast, problem solve right there on the scene, and then being able to be done with "it". However, I don't like that the work itself is extremely draining and taxing.
But most of all, I am extremely fortunate to have found another position so soon. (Its all in who you know.) Of the 110 people laid off from Healthy Families 3 of us have jobs so far. Its a tough market, and I know other arenas are doing even worse than social services. I almost feel guilty that my job search went so smoothly, but at the same time, I know nothing is certain in this market. So I hope this new job has funding to just get Mark through school.

We all hope the same thing for you. That this will just be enough to get Mark through school. And Hopefully Mark has your good fortune when it comes to him looking for a job when he graduates.
Christy, You are right you are truly blessed to find a job so quickly. The market here in Utah is looking quite bleek for social services after I graduate in May. The job does sound interesting, you sure will be having to problem solve quite quickly. Good luck!
Wow! That was fast. I can't believe you found a job that fast. You must be really lucky or just that good at your job!
I am a little slow; I didn't know about you losing your other job until I was already reading that you found a new one! I'm so glad for both of you that you found one right away; although if it's anything like our situation, it is A job - and one to be grateful for, but not what you're really wanting to do & not nearly the pay you need. Well, I at least hope it's the pay you need. I could see how that would be so draining, but hopefully you will be able to help so many peoples' lives!
Good luck with it all. It's interesting how life can change so quickly huh?
Good luck with your new job. I know you will be a blessing in these people lives. I hope it will be a blessing in your life too.
WOW- that sounds pretty intense! I know you can handle it though. I'm so glad you were able to find something so fast.
I was so sad to hear about your job - and they are truly losing an awesome person - but I wish you all the best in your new job. Good luck!!
